You should use a password manager; I recommend 1Password!

Hello,

It’s Sunday again, and I thought it was time for another practical app tooltip!

A couple of weeks ago, the Norwegian Princess got her Instagram hacked. It reminded me of a Facebook Live I did back in 2017 around this time from my cabin. A cabin that is off-limits to me at this time since it’s across the border in Sweden. The video, however, is still available on Facebook (it’s in Norwegian).

In it, I talk about why you need a password manager. I also recommend 1Password, the tool I still recommend and use. At this point, I am wondering how on earth I managed without.

Why you need a password manager?

The experts agree you need strong and unique passwords.

By strong, they mean somewhere above 20 characters, and by unuiqe, they mean never use the same password for multiple services.

If you adhere to these rules, I am pretty sure you will inevitably forget a password or two!

And this is where a password manager comes in. You keep all your passwords in it, and whenever you log in somewhere, you retrieve it from the password manager.

It takes some getting used to, and the initial setup is a little cumbersome. But believe you me, it is worth it.

I recommend 1Password. I have been using it for three years. I really like their apps in addition to their brand as a whole.

If you feel like a password manager is too much for you, get a notebook and write down your password. It’s actually not as stupid as it might seem, check out this article by security expert Troy Hunt.

Maybe setting up 1Password for the family is something to tackle this summer? Let me know how it goes, Benedicte.

PS: I have started a YouTube Channel 😱. So far only an intro video, but a new video is coming on Wednesday…
