Hello,
I’ll start with the book recommendation and get to the open-source part.
They feel connected to me, but I also just want everyone to read this book!
The book is Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez.
Imagine a world where your phone is too big for your hand, where your doctor prescribes a drug that is wrong for your body, where in a car accident you are 47% more likely to be seriously injured, where every week the countless hours of work you do are not recognised or valued. If any of this sounds familiar, chances are that you’re a woman.Yes, it does sound familiar, and trying to find research-backed information about menstrual cycles while making POW! I have again felt it first hand…
I never thought I’d dream of a unicorn startup. Still, a tiny part of me kind of hopes POW! become one now. So I can personally fund research into female health generally and the menstrual cycle specifically.
However, I think realistically, this is not on the table. But my contribution could be a much smaller one. One I am confident I could get off the ground: An open-source menstrual cycle analytics engine.
I have not decided yet if this is the correct path forward for me, for POW!
Should I?
Would you like to join me?
Anything else?
Add to the Twitter thread, or hit reply!
Until next week,
Benedicte.
PS: I did another stream on Friday, adding a much-requested feature to POW! if that sort of thing is your jam.
